Competitors at Placentia

After the overnight ferry, it is the next day, and Seko/Morrow were finally on the Rock! "How's it going?" "Well, we were just in a hurricane in a leaking motorhome with a broken heater ..." The car looked to have survived the trip down well.

The Johns/Torres Falcon. The school buses in the background of these shots are there because the age limit for school buses in Newfoundland is two years longer than in Ontario. Thus, there is a small industry of folks who buy up buses at auction in Ontario, drive them back to Newfoundland, refurbish them, and sell them. After two years in Newfoundland, the buses go on to other countries.

The Mepham/Kenzie Volvo 142S. Doug Mepham and Jim Kenzie are the "fathers" of Targa Newfoundland, having come up with the idea of translating the Targa Tasmania into North America. This car was prepared by the Sprongls, and it was pristine. I entered the Targa as a result of Jim Kenzie's articles in the Toronto Star newspaper. Thank-you Jim :-).

The fated Fryer/Sullivan Tiger. Unfortunately, we were so pre-occupied with car trouble throughout the early part of the event, I never really met these folks. This event would have been so much more enjoyable with a car that didn't have to be taken apart each night.

The fated MacDonnell/Rasmussen 280Z. As soon as we were off the ferry, these guys were unloading their car. We should have followed their example.

Sebastien and Evan, as calm and collected as ever. It was really great to know some fellow competitors before the event. Sebastien and Evan had run in some of the MCO rallies that Jim and I were car 0 (course opening car). Note 280Z in background is out of the trailer.
