Waiting for the Ferry at North Sydney

Here we are waiting for the ferry. The ferry was delayed many hours due to Hurrican Gustav. We have just finished fixing the broken rear hatch release, having to fabricate a manual cable release using parts from Canadian Tire (q.v.). The hard part was opening the hatch - the rollcage prevented anyone from crawling in to open the hatch.

The fated McCrory/McCrory Volvo P1800. Father and son were working on the car in the North Sydney Canadian Tire parking lot, ably assisted (if needed) by any competitor walking by.

The WRX of Beaulieu/Gamblin, part of the Ottawa-area contingent.

The McGeer/Williams Falcon. There is a word for this car - "Prepared." There is a word to describe this team - "Factory." Any racer knows what these words mean. McGeer/Williams were my pre-event pick to win. Then, I saw the Australians. There would be some stiff competition.

The Buchanan/Wright Acadian Canso. (That's Chevy II by Pontiac in Canada.) Jud Buchanan and Peter Wright are well-known Solo competitors. Peter's tire truck is a welcome site at track events.

The Jones/Torres Falcon RallySprint. This was the first competitor car we saw in North Sydney. It looked rough. It was rough. But it looked real. A hard look showed those Holman-Moody stickers were real, and other details dredged up from my teenage reading (I had a '66 Falcon in high school) convinced me it was a real RallySprint. We never saw the crew at North Sydney. After that was another story :-).

Reading the supplemental regulations, waiting in the ferry line. We were literally in the last row to get on the ferry. I have never been so bored in my life. However, this long stay in the parking lot proved how amazing the Honda EU2000i generator is. Incredibly quiet. Best "needed" purchase of this epic.
